McDonald’s operates over 950 restaurants in Australia. With a commitment to increase franchised restaurants from 84 to 90 per cent within the next five years, it is critical to develop a pipeline of future leaders from company employees, who are agile and who can lead through influence across the organisation.
The strategy was to design a training program that challenged individuals to build on strong technical skills and apply new concepts in a test and learn (70/20/10) adult learning environment. Additionally, the program was designed to leverage ‘flip the classroom’ learning paradigm and utilise peer-based social learning principles.
All 15 participants advanced their career within eight months of completion, a rate significantly faster than their peers. Anecdotal feedback from executive sponsors referenced a marked increase in participant’s effectiveness. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, the program was highly valued with a net promoter score of 63.63.
