MARSHALL GOLDSMITH AWARD FOR TALENT DEVELOPMENT

Transit Australia Group

As Australia’s leading mass transit specialist, Transit Australia Group (TAG) encourages a diverse and highly-skilled workforce as a key aspect of their business strategy. Having the right people in the job is important as they innovate, enhance and expand their offering in Australia and across the world.

For a company with 1,400 bus drivers in its network, one of their biggest opportunities is developing workforce skills and offering career pathways through national qualifications. With training coordinated nationally but delivered regionally across Australia, their challenge was offering a consistent program that delivers the highest possible training standards.

To overcome this challenge, Transit Australia Group (TAG) identified the opportunity to redesign its driver training program to align with a new national qualification (Certificate III in Driving Operations – Bus). They then partnered with registered training organisation (RTO) Transqual to certify their in-house training program as a national qualification, ensuring it delivered high quality outcomes tailored to their industry.

Through a significant investment from TAG and funding from the Queensland Government (Certificate III Guarantee) and the Federal Government (User Choice Funding), every bus driver who joins the TAG network now receives a nationally qualified certificate as part of their training.

Improving the quality of training has had a significant impact on the overall performance of the business including:

  • Enhancing the wellbeing and careers of their employees;
  • Increasing the quality of their services;
  • Reducing injuries and accidents;
  • Reducing their environmental footprint, and
  • Promoting excellence within the community.
