AHRI INDIGENOUS EMPLOYMENT AWARD

AHRI INDIGENOUS EMPLOYMENT AWARD

NSW Police Force

To become a police officer, applicants must complete the Associate Degree in Policing Practice (ADPP) via Charles Sturt University. The minimum educational entry requirement to undertake the ADPP is a Certificate III level course or an ATAR OF 66. Many Aboriginal people wishing to join NSWPF do not have either.

The first Indigenous Police Recruitment Our Way Delivery (IPROWD) trial program commenced in 2008. Six of the course graduates gained employment with NSWPF; four as police officers and two in non-policing roles. IPROWD was launched as a state-wide program in 2010 across nine TAFE sites. Over 500 Aboriginal people have completed IPROWD and over 80 gained employment with NSWPF.
