As Australia's largest rail freight operator and a top 50 ASX listed company, Aurizon's efforts on gender diversity required a rapid shift in culture to achieve a sustainable change from the existing 15% female representation.
Aurizon took the decisive action to urgently address this business imperative by implementing a range of initiatives derived from executive-led decisions. These were to:
Achieve a target of 30% female workforce participation by 2019 (MD & CEO announcement)
Establish the Aurizon Male Champions of Change to leverage male power of influence
Continue to expand with new initiatives to attract, develop and retain women
Success to date can be measured by the material increase of female interest in joining Aurizon's female participation rate; the concentrated efforts of the Aurizon Male Champions of Change; and the traction and sustainable change created by the new suite of gender diversity initiatives.
