In 2012, the Westpac Group conducted its biennial Diversity and Flexibility survey which sought feedback from employees to help shape Westpac’s Inclusion and Diversity agenda. Overall the feedback was positive. However opportunities were identified to improve senior leaders' support, standardise flexibility, support female employees and embed diversity across the business.
Westpac took a holistic approach by leveraging employees through a “bottom-up” approach, and group executives with a “top-down” approach, supported by the overarching principle of an inclusive workplace for all. There were four key focus areas identified and implemented to drive the inclusive workplace culture at Westpac.
In the 2014 survey results, Westpac saw considerable improvement in employee engagement, specifically against those measures identified as needing to improve in 2012. In addition the employee action group membership numbers grew to include highly active, passionate employees driving the Inclusion and Diversity agenda with strong leadership from the top.
