The Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) had staff turnover approaching 40% in its NSW/ACT division, drawn up by its retail/leisure brands. With over 30 brands all focusing on growth strategies, there was a massive opportunity to channel the people leaving the business into other roles.
As a result, a career counselling initiative initiated by one Sydney-based recruiter developed into a national team of internal career specialists and formed the program Careerwise. The program targets high turnover business units with career planning initiatives. It is an internal mobility framework that has been established to ensure talent management is a strategic focus across FCTG.
Employees who undertake career consultations with Careerwise are now more productive (10% higher nett sales versus Flight Centre brand average) and are keeping their careers within FCTG (10% higher staff retention rate). Careerwise's role in exceptional talent management in VIC/TAS and NSW/ACT has led to the team's national expansion.
