As part of their ongoing commitment to supporting people in most need, Australian Red Cross is increasing their work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Red Cross is committed to building long-term and respectful partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities. They aim to stand with and support families and communities as they drive and lead their own solutions. Australian Red Cross employ local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who understand their communities, and help them work best together. Red Cross has more than 140 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.
Australian Red Cross Aboriginal Recruitment & Retention initiative has been designed to build an organisational culture that supports and embraces staff and volunteers and values their significant contributions. Australian Red Cross have done this by introducing contemporary, innovative and focused recruitment processes and practices, developing effective retention systems through mentoring and partnering processes at a local level, and by providing career opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff that are representative of the full range of positions and classifications across the organisation.
