In 2012, with a lack of gender diversity in Aurizon's workforce, perceptions had to be robustly challenged and significant reform was required. A fully integrated business diversity plan was actioned with a specific focus on attracting, developing, transitioning and retaining women in Aurizon. It was also seen to be critical to raise the awareness of the workforce on the value of diversity and that we are all responsible for creating an inclusive work environment. The plan had to be 'fit for purpose' and was founded on authentic leadership action and a well communicated business case on the value of diversity.
