NSW Ambulance has implemented a comprehensive Healthy Workplace Strategies (HWS) program designed to build a positive, supportive and healthy workplace culture. HWS promotes employee engagement and wellbeing through programs and activities including respectful workplace training across the organisation; simplified policies and flowcharts to improving their capacity to respond to workplace concerns, staff support services such as the peer support officers, chaplains and grievance contact officers, employee wellbeing and mental health programs. They promote 'Our Values', which is an in-house ambulance management qualification to enhance frontline management, leadership development workshops and a comprehensive health and wellness program incorporating support and regular health assessments.
NSW Ambulance provides, conducts, operates and maintains emergency health transport, rescue and patient transport systems for the state of NSW. It is one of the largest ambulance services in the world servicing a population of over 7.2 million, employing approximately 4,300 people plus approximately 250 volunteers at over 300 locations, operating a fleet of more than 1,500 vehicles.
Ninety per cent of their workforce is operational personnel involved in the front line delivery of emergency medical care. To maintain their vision 'excellence in care' they understand that investing in the health and wellbeing of their workforce is paramount.
